Training with a certified practitioner: technique, philosophy and lots of practice. For massage therapists and complete beginners.
Lomi lomi is more than a technique
Lomi lomi nui teaches you to work with your whole body: forearms, weight and breath. The strokes are long and continuous, and they are almost impossible to learn from videos. You need someone to guide your hands and feel your work.
I hold international lomi lomi nui certificates. I pass on the technique as I received it from my teachers, Lyudmila Volkova and Susan Floyd, together with the Hawaiian philosophy of Huna; without it, lomi lomi becomes just another oil massage.
Course content
- History and philosophy of lomi lomi nui
- Preparing as a practitioner: pico-pico breathing, posture, using your body weight
- The basics of working with attention
- Basic hula dance movements as part of the massage strokes
- Basic forearm and hand strokes
- Hawaiian stretching, for yourself and in your work
- A complete full-body sequence
- Safety, contraindications and working with boundaries
- Supervised practice on each other
